Botting
To bot is to force a character to perform repetitive actions in order
to gain skill, through use of a MUD client's trigger features or
similar software. This is considered cheating in its highest form.
Anyone caught botting will have the skill they were practicing reduced
to zero and their character killed. Their character's corpse will then
be placed in a remote area, so as to suffer the maximum loss of skills,
stats and time before resurrection.
Triggers
Triggers are used as a botting mechanism, and are therefore not
allowed. This is true whether you are at the keyboard or not. Use of
aliases is allowed, in order to shorten the process of performing any
commands; AL includes an alias system, so use of a MUD client should
not be necessary. This rule exists in order to allow all players,
regardless of the client they use, to have equal opportunities for
skill development.
Harassment
Sexually explicit language, derogatory language, and sexually explicit
emotes will not be tolerated. If what you are saying or emoting
is offending someone and you are asked to stop and leave them alone,
then do so. All of us like to have fun and joke around, but if you
are hurting someone's feelings, making them angry, offending them,
or posing a threat to them outside the context of your character, it
is no longer fun. Even if you are roleplaying a character who is
supposed to be annoying, try not to take it so far that others are
ready to quit the game. Use good judgment, and remember everyone is
here to have fun; it's better to quit while you are ahead than to
lose your character over it. Consequences for harassment can range from
loss of privileges to banning.
IC/OOC
"IC" is a concept that defines basic roleplaying, and refers to
actively playing your role as a character in the game world. This
means that you take only actions that your character would take, and
say only things that your character would say. Your character is a
made-up personality that you create and portray in Terrinor; it is
not your real personality, or any personality that exists in the
real world.
When you are in character, there are certain things that are
inappropriate. For example, asking for information related to the
game over the channels is not acceptable. These channels are
considered "Out of Character". Things such as the location of
another character, how to solve a quest, or even how to craft an
item are considered IN CHARACTER and should be discovered by your
character within the context of the game.
Sending mud mail to another player is considered in character, so
this is an acceptable way to share IC information. When you are
"Out of Character", you are not taking the part of your
character; rather, your actions represent the real-world you, the
player rather than the character. IC and OOC actions should never
be mixed; OOC actions should be kept to OOC areas, and IC
actions should be kept to IC areas.
Multiple Characters
As the name might suggest, this refers to a single player maintaining
more than one game character at a time. Multiple characters are
NOT allowed on Accursed Lands, as they have historically been used as a
means of cheating. Additional characters are typically used to obtain
money, equipment, or information for a single "real" character, or
are used to cheat in other ways. If you are discovered to be using
multiple characters, regardless of whether or not any cheating has
occurred, all characters will be deleted - no questions
are asked, and no second chances given.
We currently have an IP checker in place which helps screen and block
out multiple characters. The IP checker is not a replacement of this
rule, but is simply one way we try to keep the game fair for those who
do abide by the rules. If you are playing multiple characters even
from different IP addresses, the rule stated here still applies.
If, by some circumstance, two people want to start playing from the
same IP address (siblings, for example), then come see us individually
and we'll sort it out.
Swearing
Real-life profanities are prohibited. However, we encourage you
to come up with your own in-character methods of swearing, if it
so suits your character. Repeat offenders will suffer disciplinary
action.
Tell Command
The tell command is NOT to be used to determine if a particular
creator is on, but invisible. Creators remain invisible for good
reason: they must have time to code without being disturbed. If
you have an immediate, dramatic bug (such as being trapped in a room
with no exits and no description), then use the assist command to
get help from an available creator. If there is no response, then
you may try to contact any creator logged on by asking politely
over one of the channels. If you are simply curious about something,
and do not intend to request IC information, then send your question
to a creator via MUD mail, or post on one of the OOC boards, and they
will get back to you with an answer. Harassment of creators through
excessive use of the "tell" command will definitely result in
punishment.
Creators
Creators are busy writing the game and do not have time to help
you figure out how to play. If you bother them about something you
could learn from reading help files or asking around IC, they are
likely to be upset. They will not reveal IC info to you, or
otherwise spoil the game experience, so please don't bother
them with game questions. Use your own good judgment.
Exceptions to this rule include being trapped in a room that is
obviously not intended as a trap, problems with the
mud running, problems with saving your character, or problems
logging into the game. These things should be reported immediately
to whomever is available, through use of the assist command.
